Interested in Surfing? I live in South Orange County in California (The county south of Los Angeles). I am interested in learning how to surf. I don't have a board, but I prefer not to buy a board because I don't know if I like it yet. Are there any places I can rent a board? Does Ron John Surf shop rent boards? And what are good surf spots to learn how to surf? Any tips, web sites to help me learn more about surfing? And is it possible to teach myself? Surfing SURFERS CLICK HERE PLEASE~!? ok i started surfing i have a thin 5'8 soft board (foam) i can get up and all and i can turn the board okay but i cant get out to the big waves without getting smashed i jump the board over the whitewash and then when a good wave comes in i catch that because at the moment i am surfing whitewash mostly, until the odd set that hasnt broken yet comes in?? any ideas on how i can get out to the bigger waves does turtle rolling work and how do duckdive getting the board under much deeper?? and also how does the board go accross the wave? does it happen naturally if you no what i mean like when i surf it goes straight down not accross is that because im surfing whitewash when i turn i just sort of cutback but not sharp or anything thanks

Universities with surfing clubs? Can anyone tell me which universities have surfing clubs or surfing teams (surf as in board and salt water not internet) or are located within 2 hours of great surfing in the U.S.? My son is interested in a degree in Business so most universities will offer that plan.. So far, I have found only two universities but am looking for others to present to my son as possible options. Actually, his interested are surfing and tennis and wants to major in business and culinary arts. Thanks for your help.

does surfing help? me and my bro go to the beach and surf alot. he is 5'7'' and about 150-160 while i am 5'11'' and 170. he believes that surfing will get him toned up and have some defintion. i have more defintion than him but he dont wanna believe me. i tell him he needs to cardio cuz surfing works on the arms more than anything. anybody think like him? does surfing do this? or should i stick to cardio?

Surfing Questions! Please help.? Where I live, surfing is a really big thing. I want to learn how to do it so it can give me something to do at the beach. I mean, with all my friends out there catching some waves with their surfboards, i'm doing the same but with a boogie board.. Pretty pathetic i know. I feel like im not taking advantage of where I live. People would love to be here and surf everyday when i dont even know how.. SO i have a few questions.. -How hard is surfing on a scale of 1-10? -What can i do OUTSIDE of water to help/prepare me on the real thing (skateboarding, snowboarding, etc) -Should i wear a wetsuit? Whats recommended for the swimwear? -Will i be able to reach the bottom of the water? (Im not the best swimmer in the world, but then again im not the worse.) & any other advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Please help you guys, thanks! Surfing exercise routine? I live in Jersey and the winters are unbearable for surfing... 35 degree water and 20 degree windchills. I'll go out when theres waves but theres no way to just paddle out everyday for a workout. Been wondering what the best way to get in shape for surfing is, outside of the act of surfing itself. I checked out surfline.com and they had a great swim workout which I do maybe twice a week but I'm looking for more. I do the perfect pushup and stretch on a daily basis. slow internet surfing why? my cpu is clean already? DO friday nights always have SLOW internet SURFING?????? 1. I dnt know what is wrong but last week my laptop(1 month old) was surfing the net at great speeds like 1-2 secs per page!! and today i've noticed my laptop is surfing pages at about 10-20 secs per page WHAT GIVES????? questions about surfing in newport beach, CA.? so i went down to newport beach this past thanksgiving and really wanted to surf but my family wasn't staying long so we just looked around. when i surfed for the first time i really loved it. usually i just boogieboard but i have found a love for surfing. anyway, i have a few questions. 1. i've only surfed once before in maui and that was with an instructor. Surfing and Hollywood????? Has anyone noticed that surfing has suddenly been on T.V. alot particularly on the E (Entertainment/hollywood gossip) channel. I have also seen it in several magazines of the spiffed up tabloid variety (STAR,PEOPLE etc...) I recently saw an interview of some guy who owns a store thats filled with surf insipired clothes which quite frankly resemble preppy clothing more. I am not saying its a good or bad thing I just find it odd.I just hope that surfing doesnt become something people, especially the teens and kids, do just because the celebrities do it and thats "cool". surfing magazines? Am i the only one, or is it bullshit that they took out the classic picture of the "chick" in the thong, on the first picture page in the "Surfer" and the "Surfing" magazine. All because some lady looked at the picture and wished she could be one of those woman, but then realized she couldnt, so bitched aboout how "degrading" it is to woman to see that and had the picturers removed. Vincent Klyn 1980's surfing movies/documentaries? He is said to have made over 100 surfing movies.? Vincent Klyn was on the World Wide Surf Tour in the mid 1980's and was ranked one of the top 5 surfers in the world, before he started acting in movies in 1989. He can be seen surfing for about 5 seconds in "Point Break", in 1991, and I'm sure he surfs in the many tv shows he was in like "Baywatch" (are those available on dvd?), but I can't find the titles of the over 100 surfing movies he made. Could surfing accident affect sex? 2 yrs ago I had a really bad surfing accident. I guess the best way and most accurate way to describe it, is that I got raped by my surfboard fins. Board got flipped over while my and my b/f were surfing shore surf. I never went to a doctor, my b/f had to drive me 1.5 hrs home and I was screaming in pain, neither of us could take anymore car. I am a virgin and 21. I didn't go to a doctor b.c my mom called and asked and they said they coulnd't do anything till the swelling went down..and after I didn't go because it was embarassing enough having my mom look at me to see if I needed immediate attention. I never used tampons b4 my accident so I dont' know what they're supposed to feel like, but they hurt like heck. I'm gonna go to the doctor this summer, b/c my b/f and I are getting marreid next summer, and I know I kinda have to go b4 we get married, but, and I want educated answers, do u think I could have really hurt my self. I'm scared of sex now, will it hurt more because... I was just wondering if this could hurt me more. What kind of damage could I have done when I got hurt. I know there was bleeding, and obviously swelling. Really don't know what, couldn't see. It took about 2 months for the swelling to go down.

freshman year + surfing?? ill be done with school after this year, and have no idea where/what i want to do/go. i have the whole world to choose from, for one year of freshman in any university i can get into, and id like to make the best of that. its one year in the country of my choice. im thinking of going to a country with nice swell, to surf since where i am, it sucks. so i have the choice: stay here, go to a university close to home, or go somewhere thousands of kilometers from anyone i ever knew, where i can surf. so your advice and opinion: venture out into the world on my own (surfing,but alone and far away in a nedw country ive never seen), or stay closer to home (friends, same old) and the see where i could go for my university studies after freshman year. im 16, but will be 17 next august
