where to surf in southern califonia?
im brand new to surf, i want to know where wave has better breaks, and closer to long beach will be great, and what does a tide report tells me? low or high tide better for surf? and should i start off with a surf board, or a body board? i heard from some1 that low tides are better, and isnt that why people go to surf 4, 5 am in the morning? also what would be the place to go if say 30 mins range from long beach?

- High tide is typically better. If you're going to surf, by a surfboard, not a body board. They are different sports requiring different skills. There are some breaks in HB that are north of the pier, near the state park, that are not crowded at all. You do not want to get out in a crowded lineup when you don't know what you are doing. I would suggest that you talk to some of the surf shops and try to find someone to give you some lessons. It's a more difficult sport than it looks. Good Luck!
