Interested in Surfing?

I live in South Orange County in California (The county south of Los Angeles). I am interested in learning how to surf. I don't have a board, but I prefer not to buy a board because I don't know if I like it yet. Are there any places I can rent a board? Does Ron John Surf shop rent boards? And what are good surf spots to learn how to surf? Any tips, web sites to help me learn more about surfing? And is it possible to teach myself? I can already skateboard and snowboard very well, I know surfing is different but I think it probably helps...Thanks Oh yea I don't know if this will help you guys answer but I am a pretty good swimmer, I bodyboarded a lot when I was a little kid for fun at the beach. I am 19 years old 5'9"-5'10", 176 pounds.

well i surf so i know where you can learn. u can take lessons or u can teach yr self. and you can pretty much rent anywhere.
I am not familiar with your area but one of the best pieces of advice I can give you with regards to surfing is NEVER go alone; ALWAYS have a buddy. It's a cardinal rule of surfing to never go by youself; it's all about safety.
